Professor Yu Jing of LZUSH, as the only representative from China, participates in the discussion of WHO's new hypertension guidelines

Hypertension, as the largest chronic disease and the most important risk factor for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases is defined as the most common preventable disease by WHO Health 2020 policy. Many countries have formulated relevant guidelines to improve the prevention and control of hypertension. But at present, the "awareness rate", "treatment rate" and "control rate" of hypertension among the public in underdeveloped regions are still very low. WHO has not issued any guidelines on the treatment of hypertension since one by WHO/ISH issued in 1999.

In recent years, many new foundation medicine, clinical research and evidence-based medical research on hypertension and cardiovascnlar and cerebrovascular diseases emerged in various regions in the world.  considering the regional differences of hypertension prevention and control, WHO called the member countries together to discuss hypertension guidelines in Geneva in July 2019.

As a member of GDG, China has sent the representative to participate in the discussion on the WHO hypertension guidelines. Professor Yu Jing from the hypertension center of Lanzhou University Second Hospital stated the current prevention, control, diagnosis and treatment and management of hypertension. Particularly she pointed out that the medical development in China is unbalanced, and the prevention and control of hypertension is closely related to the level of economic development of different regions. And in some underdeveloped areas, the focus of prevention and control of hypertension lies on the management of high-risk patients.

Professor Yu Jing as a hypertension doctor from northwest China, is the only representative from China to participate the discussion and formulation of hypertension guidelines, where the world top hypertension experts got together.  It will further promote the development of hypertension  discipline in Gansu province and even the northwest China.
